Leukoband Club Elastic Adhesive Bandage is now called Tensoplast EAB
For years, Leukoband Club elastic adhesive bandage (EAB) has been the go to tape for medics working with sports in the UK, particularly top level Football and Rugby League; while its BSN Medical cousin Tensoplast, was more preferred in other sports including Rugby Union.
However, as part of a recent acquisition and rebranding exercise the manufacture of both Leukoband and Tensoplast, BSN Medical which is now part of and known as Essity, have rebranded Leukoband Club to Tensoplast meaning there are now 2 types of Tensoplasts on the market!
To add to the confusion, the more experienced sports medics in the industry will remember when Tensoplast was called Elastoplast but that is a story for a different blog article!
Going forward, both the original Tensoplast (with the yellow line) and Tensoplast (formerly Leukoband Club) will be supplied in a blue and white cardboard box as shown in this article. This means the yellow line on the tape will be the easy identifying factor when trying to work out which tape is which.
What are the differences between the original Leukoband Club and Tensoplast tapes?
The 2 main differences between Leukoband Club and Tensoplast are firstly, that Leukoband Club has a cut edge to the tape whereas Tensoplast has a ribbon edge. Secondly, Tensoplast is a slightly off-white colour with a yellow line down the middle making it easily recognisable.
The ribbon edge on Tensoplast is meant to help with the tape sticking to itself when multiple layers of tape are being applied and the yellow line helps center the tape at the same time.
The material and adhesives are slightly different but both are excellent high quality elastic adhesive bandages (EAB's).
Leukoband Club / Tensoplast = 100% cotton tape with a cardboard core
Original Tensoplast (with yellow line) = 58% cotton & 48% viscose and a plastic core.
Luckily for you, Vivomed stock and have availability of both which can be found here:
