The Russell Chest Seal® comprises of a sophisticated, innovative design which is both hydrogel-based dressing and functions through a valve mechanism. The seal allows the covering of wounds whilst still allowing air to escape through the pleural cavity. Its purpose is to cover penetrating chest wounds whilst allowing air to escape from the pleural cavity without being drawn back in. The primary objective is to minimise the severity of lung collapse due to injury and support the process of lung re-inflation. The Russell Chest Seal uses a high quality base material which helps provide a airtight seal, so much so that it is able to remain adhered for a period of several hours use. The innovative valve mechanism is made from a strong, thin material making it ideal for opening/closing even with very small changes in pressure. The transparency of the valve allows it to be positioned accurately at the desired location on the wound. Not forgetting the inclusion of 4 peripheral apertures which are all large enough to allow blood to escape without the risk of blocking the valve. The Russell Chest Seal® is both low profile and flexible allowing it to be stowed into medical packs. Even in low light conditions, the valve can be felt to be working making it ideal for military operations. The Russell Chest Seal® is one of the largest chest seals on the market at present.
